Know Your Mini Moto

By Matt Tong
The Mini Moto is a small scale replica of the World Super Bikes used by the likes of Valentino Rossi and ex champion Carl Fogarty. The Mini Moto comes equipped with either a two stroke air or water cooled engine which are, depending on the model, capable of speeds of up to 60Mph. In this article I will underline the finer points of the components that make these speeds possible. The two Stroke Engine The two stroke engine produces more hp per pound than the four stroke engine. The two stroke engine consists of three moving parts, the piston, the rod and the crank. The piston acts as valve that opens and closes the intake and exhaust ports that are located on the walls of the cylinder. Unlike the four stroke engine that fires only every other time of the pistons movement, the two stoke engine fires every time the piston rea...

Mini Moto Engine

By Matt Tong
Industrial engines. They are still used by several manufacturers (most notably Blata on their entry level bike) and typically produce between 2.5 and 3.5 horse power (hp). All are air-cooled. Tuning and performance parts are very limited. The Chinese 47/49cc. These engines are used in the Chinese made mk2, and mk3 minimotos. They are air cooled and produce between 2.5 and 3.5 horse power (hp). This engine is different from the industrial engine that is used in the Blata, as it is specifically created for mini moto use. Polini 4.2 engine. This is the basic Polini engine and, as it’s name suggests, it produces 4.2 hp in standard form. It is air-cooled and uses the ‘series I’ crankcase with the 3-port cylinder. There is plenty of scope and parts for tuning but few people bother because most racing classes for the 4....

Performance Mini Moto Parts

By Marc Wilton
Ok, so starting with the larger performance mini moto parts. The largest part you could get for your mini moto is probably a big bore kit. This will increase the displacement of your mini moto and give you great power gains throughout the rev range. It is becoming cheaper and cheaper to buy these kits for your mini moto and they certainly give the greatest power gains for the money so these kits are highly recommended. However some mechanical knowledge may be required in order to fit one of these kits, it is basically putting a new engine in! Once you've got a big bore kit for your mini moto, you can start with some of the smaller mods in order to get the most out of your mini moto engine. I would now purchase a performance mini moto exhaust. These are great and if you get a good one you will see noticeable power increases, especially...

Mini Moto Tips

By Matt Tong
These are some quick adjustments and tips for the B1 liquid cooled minimoto that I have found helpful. Extra heat protection: To protect the bike I've put some aluminium tape on the inside of the fairing at the closest point to the exhaust and on the underside of the fuel tank. I?ve done this because the engine gets so hot I wanted to protect the fairing from melting, and it doesn't hurt to protect the fuel tank for the same reasons! My cooling system tips: When you run out of cooling liquid for your B1 rep, use is distilled water which is available at your local garage, add some food colouring to it so that you can easily tell the level and away you go. Only fill the reservoir to a quarter full, this is easily enough coolant and it leaves room for the pressure. Once you have filled the coolant rese...

My Minimoto Won't Start

By David Welton
My Minimoto wont start what can I do? This is a very common question I get asked regularly. First of all you need to stand back from the situation and apply some lateral thinking and work through this logical checklist: Firstly if yours wont start make sure you have fuel getting to the carburettor and the fuel valve is set to the ON position . Make sure you choke is on (selected to the up position) when the engine is cold. Check to ensure the spark plug is not fouled with and is in good condition. Try spraying a small amount of starting fluid into the carburettor air intake to aid the starting process. If it starts after spraying with starting fluid but dies as soon it runs out of starting fluid then this ...

Pocket Bikes for Speed Freaks

Author: Trevor Mulholland Think drag racing is a total drag? Or that the Motocross could stand a little more innovation? A sports buff with a taste for the unconventional is sure to find pocket bikes a great new trend. From being a simple novelty, pocket bikes have become a passion for racing fans who are tired of the same old trends, and are ready to take a step toward a whole new way of looking at racing - from a view that's much closer to the ground! The idea of pocket bikes started many years ago in the tech-savvy nation of Japan. Among the things Japan is famous for is miniaturizing popular large merchandise, while keeping all the features intact. The earlier term for miniature bikes in that country is "minimoto," an abbreviation for "mini motorcycle." The trend spread into Europe, and soon famous bike manufacturers like Italy's Pollini began c...
